You may have noticed that ‘League’ day has been replaced by ‘Social League’.  There is a good reason for this.  League days are our social disc golf days at MDGC.  They are a  bi-monthly opportunity for Melbourne disc golfers to get together and enjoy a friendly game of disc golf.  We welcome all new players to these events.  It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to the sport or a seasoned player.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  These days are a fantastic opportunity for disc golfers to meet new people, pick up a few tips and improve your personal game.

We do still keep score and after three rounds of play, new disc golfers will be given a handicap.  This is a measure for you to improve on.  It also means that new players who improve upon their first round, have a great chance of winning our social league days which means taking home a brand new disc from our club store.

COVID restrictions have  meant that until now we have not been able to host our BBQs and taco lunches but as things improve and we see more people coming back to our social days there is no doubt that the sausage sizzle and tacos will return too.

Our April Social Leagues saw 21 disc golfers playing at Bald Hill on Saturday 10th and 18 disc golfers playing at Ruffey Lake Park on the 17th.  This included some new players and some returning to the sport from an an extended period away.

The handicap winner at Bald Hill was Anthony Magen and the best raw score of 53 (5 under par) was shared by Cam Ford and Chris Scott.  Congratulations!  CTP (closest to the pin) was awarded to Chris Scott.

We are looking forward to more Social days on our Melbourne courses and hoping to introduce clinics for new players during the lunch breaks.  Remember, social leagues are for everyone, regardless of age or ability.  Our goal at MDGC is to see as many people as possible realising the enjoyment and benefits of this amazing sport and these days provide a great introduction.

You can register for our social league days on Disc Golf Metrix.  The link will for each event will be posted on our web site and social media in the weeks leading up to each scheduled event.  Of course, you are welcome to come along and register on the day too if you are a new player.  Just come a little earlier so we can ensure you are placed in a playing group and have time to chat with our members before your round.

Will we see you on the course in 2021?
