Course adjustment at Ruffey Lake Park

In recent months we have had an increased number of disc golfers enjoying the course at Ruffey Lake Park.  It is great to see so many new players enjoying the park with their family and friends.  Some new players we have spoken to have commented that it can be difficult to find the tees on the back nine and we agree.

Hole 1 – hole 9 are now clearly marked at Ruffey Lake with improved signage.  The tee pads for holes 10 – 18 however can be a little tricky to find for new players. Holes on the back nine have small green markers inserted flush to the ground and can be difficult to find, but looking out for patches of worn grass does help to locate them.

The Ruffey Lake Disc Golf course map is handy to help locate the tees plus if you are using the UDisc app for scoring, this may also assist.

Late last year MDGC made a small change to the 18 hole layout, but for those not in the know, you may struggle to find the tee for the new hole 14.  The previous hole 14 tee  was becoming dangerous with exposed tree roots and it was decided that another, more challenging hole may be needed so the hole 14 tee was moved to the bottom of the hill near the walking path, directly below the hole five tee.

This new tee pad location introduces a few new challenges;  increased elevation, increased distance and of course many more trees to avoid.  The new hole is included in the UDisc app as a par 4, 85 metre hole.  Yes, that is short for par 4 but it is a very technical hole.

A few years ago one of our junior members created these videos providing a tour of the course at Ruffey Lake Park.  Of course these videos do not include the new hole 14 and some of the updated tee signs but it may be helpful to those new to Ruffey Lake to find their way around the course..

If you love Ruffey Lake, let us know and remember to take care of the park when you are playing.  Take your rubbish with you and be mindful of other park users.  Have fun out there!
