2021-22 Summer Cup

Now with Added Courses

The Summer Cup is now in its fifth year. It was designed as a way to encourage disc golfers to get out and keep playing disc golf during the summer break where there are no social days and few tournaments. This is structured as casual play with players organising their own rounds at all of the current courses.

  1. Whenever an informal round is played on the standard 18-hole league course at either Ruffey, Bald Hill, Stony Creek, Lewis Park (repeat the back 6 to make 18) or Royal Park (play the 9 holes twice) by any group of 2 or more players, the scores should be submitted to summer-cup@melbournediscgolf.com. All such playing groups will be self-arranged – there are no mandated playing days – everything is to be entirely casual. The best place to hook up with other casual players is on the Melbourne Disc Golf Club messenger chat or the Disc Golf Collective Victoria FB page. Note that prior to January 7th, anyone may be on the card, but after that date, there must be at least two Summer Cup-registered players for a valid card (others may play, of course).
  2. The event will run from the completion of the December Bald Hill social day/Club Championships until sunset 11 February 2022 (the evening prior to the first social day of 2022).
  3. Multiple divisions will be offered, players will be placed in a division based on their current Metrix handicap as at 1st December 2021. Estimates will be used where required (we reserve the right to observe early rounds and adjust as required to flatten the groups as much as possible). The intent is to group players of similar skill into each division. Each division will have either four or five players. Note that entries will be accepted until January 7th. Divisions will be finalised as of the morning of January 8th.
  4. In order to achieve a valid entry, every player must submit a minimum of one round at each of the five courses (the best round at each will comprise the final score). A four-course entry will be accepted for those unable to attend all 5 courses. This will comprise the four best rounds at those courses along with the ‘worst’ of the second-best scores at the four courses.
  5. All results will be collated. For each player, the best rounds at the courses will be corrected for handicap (using the same handicap as for divisional placement). The total of the handicap-corrected rounds will be the final entry. Lowest total in each division wins. Note, any divisions where the handicap difference amounts to 2 strokes or less will run without handicap.
  6. The winner in each division will receive a $50 voucher to spend at the club pro shop. Winners to be announced at the February league day on Saturday February 12th 2022.
  7. Updates will be provided regularly until we ‘go dark’ on February 1st
  8. There will be additional prizes (both lowest raw score and most rounds submitted). Confirmation to follow.
  9. We hope to schedule a “league day” for each of the five courses to assist everyone to achieve their minimum entry requirement. Dates to be advised.
  10. Entry fee will be $10 per member and $20 per non-member player. Payment options can be found below. Non-members will receive a $10 credit towards membership if they later join.
