Summer Cup Revival, 3-Day, Flexi-Frenzy

The Melbourne Disc Golf Club is excited to be running their first flexi-start PDGA tournaments.

These flexi-start, C tiers are built to accommodate players who want to play competitively without the expense, stress, scheduling conflicts or the intimidation some may feel with larger tournaments. This is the first time we have done this so please be understanding that there may be some glitches. If you see something that is not quite right or you need help with anything then please email us on scrs@melbournediscgolf.com or if urgent call Jeff on 0409 827 784.

These events allow you to play at your own convenience (with a minimum group of 3), between the times allotted for each event. That is 8am-7pm in the case of the Flexi Frenzy. They are still PDGA tournaments, so the PDGA rules apply. Please take them seriously and play fair.

We are planning on running 4 events over the upcoming long weekend. The tentative schedule is below:

  • Friday January 26
    • Bicentennial Park, Chelsea.
      • Tee times available from 8am to 7pm in 30-minute intervals.
      • Registration is through Disc Golf Scene here. From Jan 17
      • You will be asked to select a tee time when you register.
    • Bald Hill Park, Clarinda.
      • Tee times available from 8am to 7pm in 30-minute intervals.
      • Registration is via Disc Golf Scene here. From Jan 17
      • You will be asked to select a tee time when you register.
    • These two events have been scheduled for the same day as the courses are close to each other so groups could potentially play one course and then the other. If you are planning on doing this then please select tee times that are about 3 hours apart to give you plenty of time between rounds. If you don’t start the second round exactly on time it really does not matter.
  • Saturday January 27
    • Ruffey Lake, Doncaster.
      • Tee times available from 8am to 7pm in 30-minute intervals.
      • Registration is via Disc Golf Scene here. From Jan 17
    • Sunday, January 28
      • Little Blind Creek, Melton.
        • Tee times available from 8am to 7pm in 30-minute intervals.
        • Registration is via Disc Golf Scene here. From Jan 17

These events are part of the Summer Cup Revival Series but because they are only 1 round each, the rounds will not count towards the series leaderboard unless you play at least two. The average of your best two tournament ratings will be entered into the leader board. The Flexi Frenzy weekend will be considered one event in the Summer Cup series. We hope that makes sense but let us know if you have any questions.

There is no problem with competitors playing only one of the events in the weekend. We are designing these as one-round flexi-start events at a very low cost in the hopes that we draw in some players who have not played in tournaments before.

Given the low cost of the Flexi Fenzy events, and greater difficulty in managing things like CTB (closest to the basket) and Aces (hole in one), we will not be offering these as prizes for the events. There will be some minor prizes for the Flexi Frenzy weekend, but they will be dependent on the number of players at each event and the total number of players across the weekend. The organizers reserve the right to make the final determination on the structure and value of the prizes until all 4 events are completed. Then an announcement will be made, and the prizes will be emailed to the winners.

Since these events are flexi-start events it is unlikely that any first-place ties could be broken with the traditional play-off. Therefore, anyone who finishes equal first in their division for any one of the events will be declared co-champions.

Registration information:

  • All registrations are done through DISC Golf Scene.
    • You will need to select a tee time when you register so if you are planning to play with others then make sure you all register for the same tee time.
  • All participants are required to be ADG members for insurance purposes. It’s free to join here.
  • We are hoping to get some new players playing their first tournament and we want to make sure to look after them as we would during a normal tournament. Therefore, we are adding a couple of items to the registration form. They are explained below:
    • Are you willing to be a guide to a new adult player. This only involves explaining the basic tournament rules such as OB, speed of play, 3 minutes for a lost disc and general disc golf etc. This is nothing too onerous and what most of us do already.
    • I am a new player aged over 18 who is new to disc golf and would like to be put on a card with someone who can explain some of the basics of tournament play to me.
    • I understand that I may need to be one of the scorers on my card and have the PDGA app or a link to the score card on my phone.
  • Minors: anyone under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will stay with them throughout the tournament.
  • Once you are registered you will receive a confirmation email from Disc Golf Scene that will have some additional information on the tournament. Then you will receive a final email the night before the tournament with the PDGA Score Card code and other event information.
  • You must play in a card of at least 3 players to satisfy PDGA requirements. Maximum card size is 5. If you are a single player then try to find a card of two or three around the time you want to play. You can change your tee time through Disc Golf Scene. If you only have a group of one or two and are uneasy about pushing into another group just email SCRS@melbournediscgolf.com text Jeff on 0409 827 784 and we can sort something out.
