Melbourne Disc Golf’s home turf, Ruffey Lake Park, is an amazingly large area of public parkland in the heart of a dense Melbourne suburb. It is a public park and the course is free to play.
In 2012 Manningham City Council installed a permanent 6 basket course, complete with tee signs. Early in 2016, the Council installed three new baskets, and in addition the Melbourne Disc Golf Club (MDGC) installed tees for these baskets along with alternate tees to make an 18-hole course. In 2023 the course was upgraded with 9 concrete tee pads, and 18 permanent baskets.
You can check out discs out at the Doncaster branch of the Whitehorse Manningham Regional Library Corporation just like a book. How cool is that! You can view frisbee availability via their online library catalogue.
Simply take along a piece of photo identification with a current address, and they will sign you up for a library account (regardless of which municipality you live in) and you can then loan your discs – any resident of Victoria may obtain library membership.
The course is located at 246 Church Road, Templestowe VIC 3106 and is best accessed by the carpark at the end of Church Rd off of King St. (Melways 33 H9) This is the north side of the park. There is ample parking on most occassions byut the carpark can be busy on weekends as it is a popular picnic spot.
Note: There is no access to the Church Rd Carpark via George St (from the south side of the park).
Ruffey Lake Park is serviced by several bus routes including 279 (all hours) and 908 (peak-hours to and from the city, off-peak to and from Doncaster Park-and-Ride) with the best stops being on King St close to the corner of Church Rd. To the east of the course, the 295 and 318 will stop on Victoria St – ask for the Victoria St Playground (it’s the only stop on Victoria between King and George). Note that the 305 stops at the corner of George and Church, but is a purely a peak-hour service, only running to the city in the mornings and outbound in the afternoons.
